About Us

Ferndale is a splendid detached three-story Victorian house, which has been tastefully modernised to provide superior, caring accommodation.

It is situated in Southbourne, Emsworth, near Chichester and is a mile from the sea front. It is approximately a mile from the centre of Emsworth with all its amenities.

Ferndale is a family-owned care home providing residential care to older people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as offering palliative care.

Residential Dementia Care

Residential dementia care involves providing specialised, round-the-clock support in a care facility for individuals living with dementia. These facilities are designed to meet the unique physical, emotional, and cognitive needs of residents, offering a safe and structured environment. Services typically include assistance with daily activities, memory care programs, medical monitoring, and tailored social and recreational activities to enhance quality of life and well-being. Staff are trained in dementia care to ensure compassionate and effective support.

Palliative Dementia Care

Palliative dementia care focuses on providing comfort and enhancing quality of life for individuals with advanced dementia. It emphasises managing symptoms, addressing emotional and spiritual needs, and supporting families. This type of care involves a person-centered approach, prioritising dignity, relief from pain or distress, and maintaining the best possible quality of life, often in the final stages of the condition.

My mum has been a resident since 2021 and has settled in well and is very happy and contented. The manager and all the workers are caring and really lovely towards her. They encourage Mum to make decisions and to participate in the daily activities that Ferndale put on for the benefit of the residents. Mum particularly likes the keep fit sessions. All of Mum’s needs are catered for including a hairdresser, optician, dentist and chiropodist. My mum is safe and well cared for and I am kept abreast of how Mum is doing at every stage.

The staff were very good in settling Mum in on her first night, and one stayed on after shift to ensure she was OK with her first bedtime there. Meet The Team

Emma has a wealth of experience, having spent three decades working in care. Most recently, she worked in a large, luxury care home before joining Ferndale. Emma is an established care manager with a deep understanding of dementia and a passion for enriching the lives of those with the condition. She is highly qualified with a diploma in Health & Social Care (NVQ Level 5) and enjoys interacting with residents and loved ones.

I’m committed to supporting the whole team at Ferndale to deliver outstanding care in a compassionate, bespoke manner. We are not a large, hotel-like institution but a home-from-home that older people will instantly feel comfortable in. I’ve worked in care for the last ten years and take great satisfaction from helping those with dementia and their families. I’m extremely proud of the team and the difference they have made to so many local families who were previously struggling at home without specialist dementia care.
